Day five in my series showcasing my top reads of 2018, following the innovative idea of #bookvent from Jen Lucas of Jen Med’s Book Reviews.
My fifth book of 2018 is part of a series that holds a special place in my heart. I have loved this author’s writing since the first book in the series came out, and I have just had the pleasure of receiving a proof for the sixth book in the series. A new book from this author is a special treat, made all the better for arriving just before Christmas.

So which book is behind Door no 5?

On the surface, Lara Chorley and Ruth Hull have nothing in common, other than their infatuation with Michael Vokey. Each is writing to a sadistic inmate, sharing her secrets, whispering her worst fears, craving his attention.
DI Marnie Rome understands obsession. She’s finding it hard to give up her own addiction to a dangerous man: her foster brother, Stephen Keele. She wasn’t able to save her parents from Stephen. She lives with that guilt every day.
As the hunt for Vokey gathers pace, Marnie fears one of the women may have found him – and is about to pay the ultimate price.
It always takes me quite a while to review a Sarah Hilary novel, because her writing so densely crams my brain with thoughts and images that I need time to take it all in and to process before I can begin to construct coherent thoughts.
The sheer complexity of Hilary’s novels always makes me gasp. She has so many things to say and she says them in such cleverly constructed and often explosive ways that I am in awe of her writing prowess.
I can tell you straight away that Come and Find Me is a bloody brilliant book. Brilliantly and tightly plotted, filled with exceptionally well-drawn characters and capable of wringing out deeply buried emotions from the reader.
So, if you have not yet been introduced to D.I.Marnie Rome and her partner, Noah Jake, do yourself a massive favour and start with Someone Else’s Skin, the first in the series. These are novels of exceptional skill and though you can read each as a stand alone, the story arc is such that really they should be read in order.
